If employment does not work out, self-employment is a route — but be aware that Switzerland decides whether you count as self-employed through the social insurance system, not by your own declaration, and that a permit may restrict it.

If you have a concrete problem — unpaid wages, a dismissal that looks wrong, hours beyond the legal limits — trade unions and the cantonal labour inspectorates are the right channels. Several cantons also run free or low-cost legal advice centres, and employment disputes below a certain value are free of court fees.
